TMA 01 theatrical role 1: Summarising and interpreting a table.
The table summarises findings by Bandura, Ross and Ross (1963). It lists four types of vulturine acts per planted by children when subject to four varied conditions. The conditions included a rattling, film, cartoon mannikin which exposed them to bellicose behavior and the control condition in which the children were not exposed to it. The types of aggression displayed in the table include imitative, partial imitative, non-imitative and tote up adding up all three different types of aggression.
The highest number of aggressive acts (86.4) were performed when in the cartoon model condition and the lowest (45.3) when in the control condition. All types of aggression scored significantly lower when in the control condition. The imitative type of aggression scored highest (21.3) when participants were exposed to the live model condition.
The table appears to indicate that exposure to any form of violent model increases aggressive behaviour in children.
TMA01 Part 2: Short report
Summary
In this handout we purport to give the reader a greater understanding of how favorable learning, watching and copying the behaviour of others, has helped us understand the behaviour of children.
It includes the findings of psychological look for on the topic, in particular the research performed by Albert Bandura and colleagues.
Introduction
Albert Bandura is a psychologist who was born in 1925, in Canada. He was interested in social learning and whether children imitated aggressive acts when they observed them. In 1961 he conducted the Bobo doll experiment in which he examined the behaviour of children when they witnessed aggressive behaviour. He was also interested in whether gender would affect the outcome of the experiment and the different outcomes when the model was live or on film, helping to understand the set up that media depicting violence such as video games and films suck on childrens behaviour.
